Bolton Easter Congress 2017


78 competitors attended the Bolton Easter congress held at the Ukrainian Social club, Bolton, April 14th – 16th.


The FIDE open attracted 22 competitors. In the final round the two joint leaders, on 3.5/4 pts met. These were FM Joseph McPhillips (Bolton) and Bao Nghia Dong, a Vietnamese national at Loughborough University. Joseph won an interesting Queen verses two Rook ending to finish outright first.



Last year’s winner Steve Jones (Widnes) and Scottish representative Martin Mitchell were second equal.

 

The Major section attracted 24 entrants and was won outright by Martin Burn (Stockport) on 4.5pts.


The only 100% scorer was Michael Fisher (Oldham) who won the knights section.

 


Andrew Horton (3Cs) won the Busy Persons Blitz for the second year running, on 7.5/8pts.
