Children from all over Manchester came to the Bolton Market Place and played chess all day to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity. They took on all comers including passing English Junior Champions, County Players and strong club players. During the day we were able to direct lots of people, new to chess, to their local chess club and advise some local schools how to set up a chess club! We even took out time to teach some children how to play chess!
The event raised over £300 for Mind. Pictured are some of the children who took part and pictures of members of the public taking on our juniors.
Julian Clissold (Junior Organiser, Manchester Chess Federation) said: “Thanks go to all the children and their parents who took part, for their massive contribution to making the day a success.”
