Congress report Bolton Easter chess congress 2015.


The event was held from Friday 3nd to Sunday 5th April, at the Ukrainian Social Club, Bolton. A total of 101 player competed in the main congress and 81 attended the 10 minute blitz.


The FIDE Open attracted 38 competitors including 6 juniors and their tutor from Ponteveda, Spain. Alberto Portela (Ponteveda) and Andrew Horton (3Cs) were 1st= on 3.5pts/4 entering the final round, having drawn their 3rd round encounter. In the last round Alberto beat Don Mason (Shirley) with black whereas Andrew could only draw with Ali Jaunooby so finished 2nd=.

There was a four way tie for first in the Major. Noel Boustred won the Knight outright.

Andrew Horton and Joseph McPhillips were 1st= in the busy persons blitz.
